Ending the suspense around the cabinet berth for first-time Lok Sabha MP Amit Shah who secured a historic win from Gandhinagar, the 54-year-old has been allotted the key portfolio of Home Minister in NDA 2.0 cabinet, reports Times Now.

Involved in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his childhood, Amit Shah started his political career as a leader of the student wing of the RSS, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, in 1983. He met Modi when in 1982 when latter was an RSS pracharak (propagator), working as in-charge of youth activities in city. This started a camaraderie that would result in the historic win of BJP in last two Lok Sabha elections and several assembly elections. Since 1989, Shah has fought 28 elections to various local bodies. As of 2019, he has never lost an election.

As PM Modi started his tenure as India’s prime minister in 2014, Shah was unanimously elected as BJP President, repeating the same success in 2016. As Shah is set to take up the influential portfolio of home ministry, former health minister J P Nadda is expected to replace him as the party president.
