Lakshya Sen claimed the bronze medal in World Junior Championship in Canada after losing a lengthy battle against current World No.1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semi-final, which lasted for an hour and eleven minutes, reports TNIE.

This is India’s first medal in the World Junior Championship since Sameer Verma won bronze in 2011.

Despite not winning on Saturday (November 17) in Canada, 17-year-old Sen had previously beaten Vitidsarn, 17, in straight games in the finals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in July 2018.

Lakshya had dropped only one game during the whole tournament prior to his defeat in the semi-final, where Vitidsarn won 20-22, 21-16,21-13 equalising the head to head record between the two players.

The defending champion Vitidsarn will continue his title defence in the final against Japan’s Kodai Narakora who beat third seed Li Shifeng of China 21-11, 19-21, 21-17 in the day’s other semi-final.
