A message put out by Islamic Resistance Council (IRC) claiming responsibility for the Mangaluru blast said that one of its Mujahid brothers Mohammed Shariq attempted to attack the Kadri Manjunath Swamy temple.

Similar to Leicester, where the attackers said that they were attacking the Hindu temple because it was the hub of Hindutva and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the IRC message says “Hindutva temple in Kadri” and calls it “a bastion of the saffron terrorists in Mangaluru” to justify the blast.

The message said that in spite of the explosion not occurring at the intended place, the organisation considered it a success as Shariq had managed to evade surveillance.

It also warned the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar saying that “Your joy will be short-lived and you shall reap the fruits of your oppression soon. We have you in our sights and it is just a matter of what and not if we will get to you."

Reacting to the message issued by IRC, ADGP Kumar said that the police was probing its veracity.
