Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on 29 September successfully completed the erection of a 60 metre special steel span over the mainline of an operational railway track near Nishatganj. LMRC engineers completed this feat in just five days without hampering the vehicular traffic along the adjacent Indra bridge or the operations of the trains on railway line, Metro Rail News has reported.

The engineers of the LMRC applied the ‘Push Launching Methodology’ to erect the 470 ton heavy steel span over viaduct of the metro. The task was performed at a height of 16 metre. LMRC performed this whole task during the night hours so that the ongoing traffic on the adjacent bridge and the railway line is not disrupted.

The steel span’s construction started on 24 September and was completed in early morning hours of 29 September.

The LMRC has performed a similar task in August 2016 at Awadh Rotary between the operational Transport Nagar-Charbagh metro corridor.

Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, LMRC, said, “This is a huge accomplishment for us as it has been completed in just five days. We had to take several precautions during this operation for the safety of the public. Every activity was minutely monitored to check the deflection and vibration of the support structures considering the huge load factor associated with the movement of the machinery.”
