Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today (1 December) attended the Lucknow Metro inauguration function and flagged off the first trial from the state-of-the-art Transport Nagar Metro Depot. However, the metro train service will be available to Lucknowites only after March 2017.
“We have set March 26, 2017 as our revenue operations deadline, in other words the commencement of service for the people,” a Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) official said.

Work on Phase 1A of the project called priority section began on 27 September 2014. “We have completed the work in 26 months, which is a record for any metro rail project in the country,” claimed an LMRC official.
The first trial run was conducted by two women operators. The two women taking the lead are Pratibha and Prachi Sharma, both from Allahabad.
