Kishanganj police station SHO Ashwini Kumar’s mother passed away due to a heart attack after her health seriously deteriorating as her son’s dead body reached home on Sunday (11 April).
Kumar was lynched by a group of people led by a person named Mohammed Israel in at Pantapara village in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district.
Israel along with his son Mohammad Abdul allegedly provoked several people to attack Kumar by using the public address system of a mosque.
21 identified individuals along with around 500 unrecognised people have been made accused in this case and every member of the raiding team that accompanied Kumar to recover a stolen bike have been suspended for failing to protect their fellow officer.
Both the SHO and his ageing mother were cremated together on Sunday. Kumar is survived by his wife and three minor children. The cops have also arrested two other individuals from the bordering region while they tried to flee with the stolen bike.
Speaking on Ashwini Kumar’s mother’s demise, the former SHO’s maternal uncle Subhash Singh informed TOI, “She died of heart attack around 5.30 am on Sunday. Initially, she wasn’t told about the incident, but her condition started deteriorating after Kumar’s body reached home on Saturday.”
