In a proud moment for the country, renowned Indian boxer M C Mary Kom’s unparalleled sixth world title helped her shoot up to the number one position in the latest world rankings released by the International Boxing Association's (AIBA), reports The Tribune India.

Popularly known as ‘Magnificent Mary’ due to her remarkable spirit and drive, the Manipuri became the most successful boxer in the history of world championships’ when she won the title in the 48 Kg category in Delhi, in November 2018.

Mary Kom is placed at the top of the charts in her weight division with 1700 points in the updated rankings released by AIBA.

She picked up gold medals at a tournament in Poland and the Commonwealth Games while also winning a silver at the prestigious Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria.

It was a good year for two other promising Indian boxers as Pinki Jangra is placed eighth in the 51kg category list and Asian silver-medalist Manisha Maun holds the same position in the 54kg category. Former silver medalist Sonia Lather is placed second in the 57kg division despite a disappointing year while World-bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur comes fourth in the 64kg category.
