Member of Lok Sabha representing Delhi East Maheish Girri today (22 September) wrote to Prime Minister Modi asking for minority educational institutions to come under the ambit of the sectarian Right to Education (RTE) Act.

In his letter, Girri says that due to minority institutions not coming under the ambit of the RTE Act, several financially backward students are denied opportunities to study. He reiterates that while Article 15(5) of the Constitution of India was inserted to ensure the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes but under Article 30(1) made during the ninety-third amendment to the constitution in 2006, minority institutions were kept out of the scope of the Act. This, he writes is a violation of Right to Equality guaranteed by the constitution.
