Making Amends: Boeing 737 MAX To Get New Warning Light For Anti-Stall System Malfunction

Struggling to cope up with the fallout from its aircraft’s crash in Indonesia and another one in Ethiopia, Boeing will be outfitting its 737 MAX aircraft with a warning light for malfunctions in the anti-stall system - standardizing a feature which was previously sold as an optional extra, reports Hindustan Times.

According to the report, this feature, known as “diagree light”, will become standard and is among the modifications that Boeing will present to the United States authorities and clients in the coming days, the report cited sources as saying to AFP.

The sources reportedly added that the feature was missing in both the Lion Air aircaft, that crashed in Indonesia, and the Ethiopian airlines jet which crashed in Addis Ababa. The two accidents resulted in death of more than 300 people.

However, American Airlines, which operates 24 737 MAX 8, had bought the optional feature in anticipation of potential malfunctions, a source close to the matter told AFP.

Southwest Airlines, another United States air carrier and the biggest customer of the plane, also bought an additional “Primary Flight Display” option, a spokesperson said.

As per the report, the modifications are in the final stages but Boeing wants to be certain this meets the expectations of regulators and customers.
