The incident occurred at the Punjab government guest house in Shimla, during an interaction with journalists in which he was asked a question about his allegedly casteist remark against the prime minister in 2017.
“Don't you know there is a person in India, Narendra Modi. Haven't you heard about his sharp attacks. Go and ask him questions,” he retorted.
Labelling the prime minister a coward, Aiyar said to a reporter that he could not ask him any further questions. When the journalist persisted, Aiyar flew into a rage and pushed away his mic, proceeding to raise his fists in the air and threatening to physically assault the reporter.
