A senior manager of Manipal Group has been arrested for allegedly transferring Rs 62 crore from the company’s account to his personal account. Sandeep Gururaj, deputy general manager (finance) at Manipal Education and Medical Group in Bengaluru, had allegedly transferred the funds to his wife’s account and that of his own.
The police have claimed that he transferred some funds to Amrita Chengappa, his ex-colleague, who he has been allegedly having an affair with. Amrita’s brother in Dubai is also reported to have received some funds.
Chairman of Manipal Group, Ranjan Pai, filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park Police and four arrests have been made so far. Apart from Sandeep, P N Charusmita, Meera Chengappa and her daughter Amrita have been arrested.
Amrita’s brother Vishal is yet to be arrested and a lookout notice has been issued by the police. Sandeep, who has been with the group for about 15 years, had bonded with Ranjan and secured his trust. He had been paid a salary of Rs 48 lakh per annum.
The alleged misappropriation of funds was noticed by Ranjan while certain investments were made without his notice. This prompted Manipal group to look into the company’s audit.
