A violent attack occurred on 13 June in Khamenlok, in the Imphal East district of Manipur, resulting in the massacre of at least eleven villagers.
Police have reported that many injured individuals have been admitted to both government and private hospitals and that the death toll may increase as those in critical condition are currently in ICU.
Following the attack, the deceased individuals have been taken to the mortuary at J N Institute of Medical Sciences in Porompat, Imphal.
Police officials have stated that the lethal attack on Khamenlok was executed by militants, who threw multiple bombs late on Tuesday night, killing and injuring several villagers.
The initially unhurt villagers attempted to flee to safer areas, but the tribal militants, who were awaiting their escape, opened fire on them.
After law enforcement dispatched additional forces to Khamenlok, a firefight ensued with the tribal militants before they eventually retreated.
The Khamenlok region has been the primary area of conflict between the Kuki tribal militants and the non-tribal Meiteis. The recent clashes between these groups have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. The militant groups possess sophisticated weapons.
Curfew hours in the Imphal East and Imphal West districts were reduced due to an improvement in the law and order situation. The curfew was relaxed in these regions from 5 am to 8 pm on Monday.
The curfew hours in these districts have been adjusted to 5 am to 6 pm after some incidents.
