The Shia Wakf Board today (08 August) filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court in relation to the Ram Janmabhoomi - Babri Masjid case.
Claiming that since the Babri Masjid was under the jurisdiction of the Shia Wakf Board and that it alone had the right to negotiate and arrive at a conclusion with other stakeholders, the board said that the mosque could be built in a Muslim-dominated locality within reasonable distance from Lord Ram’s birthplace.
Reacting to this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy said that the intervention by the Shia Wakf Board was ‘godsent’. The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on 11 August.
Zafaryab Jilani of the Babri Masjid Action Committee said that the affidavit was merely an appeal and that it had no legal function.
