Massive Fire Breaks Out At ONGC's Surat Plant After Multiple Blasts; No Casualties Reported

A fire tragedy took place in the wee hours of Thursday (24 September) at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) plant in Gujarat's Surat.

Although the fire was massive, no casualties were reported from the site, India Today reported.

The fire was later brought under control, according to an official quoted by news agency ANI.

Public sector company ONGC, in a Twitter post, said the fire had been doused off and the operations will resume at the earliest.

The accident took place at around 3:00am after three blasts were heard at the ONGC's Hazira plant, according to Surat District Collector Dr Dhaval Patel as quoted by ANI.

Patel also told news agency Reuters that the accident was caused by a rupture in a pipeline at the gas terminal.

“The area was cordoned off, depressurised and cooled as a part of firefighting measures,” Patel said.

Gas supplies to customers were also temporarily shut due to safety concerns.
