Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (21 August) said that the proposed Ganga Expressway, which will connect Meerut in west UP to Prayagraj in eastern part of the state, will become the backbone of the state's economy.
"We are connecting Meerut in west UP with Prayagraj in east UP. Ganga Expressway will become the backbone of state's economy," CM Yogi was quoted by ANI as saying.
"Travelling time from Lucknow to Meerut will decrease to 5 hours and 6.5 hours from Prayagraj to Meerut through Ganga Expressway," the UP Chief Minister said.
The proposed Ganga Expressway will be around 594 km long, 6-lane wide (expandable to eight lanes) greenfield expressway. The expressway will pass through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh namely (from west to east) Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rai Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.

CM Yogi further informed that over 90 per cent land acquisition for the project has been completed.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allocation of funds in the Union Budget for big infrastructure development.
