Redmond, United States (US)-headquartered technology behemoth, Microsoft Corporation is in talks to acquire video-game chat platform Discord Inc for more than $10 billion, reports The Verge citing Bloomberg.
In the last round of fund-raising held in bygone December, Discord raised $100 million at a valuation of $7 billion. Thus, if the deal with Microsoft goes through at a size of $10 billion, it would mark a big jump in the company's valuation in a short span. It should be noted though that the deal it not imminent yet.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the platform recorded a revenue of $130 million last year. With about 140 million monthly users, Discord keeps its services free for most users, while minting revenues through monthly Nitro subscriptions which offer more advanced features like higher resolution screen sharing, extra sticker packs, and larger upload limits et cetera.
It should be noted that despite the steep valuation, as per a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, the company is still not profitable and is minting losses for the time being.
