Fresher hiring is slowly increasing among mid tier IT companies, and according to some in the industry is slowly reaching 60-70% of what it was in 2014-2015 levels.
According to an Economic Times report companies such as Mindtree, Zensar, Hexaware and others are looking to hire more freshers this year. While they will be hiring between 500-1000 freshers during the FY19 hiring drives they will remain picky and look for specific skills in candidates.
“Hiring at the fresher level is picking up quite aggressively, but not at the volumes and numbers of earlier days. Currently, hiring is back at 60-70% of the 2014-15 levels,” talent acquisition VP at Mindtree said.
According to recruitment agencies companies are looking for students who already have acquired certifications in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud, analytics and machine learning, the ET report says.
According to industry body NASCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) the IT industry would grow this year at about 7-9 per cent. It estimates that about 1,00,000 people would have be added to the industry’s workforce last year.
The industry however, faces the threat of job losses due to automation and newer digital technologies.
