After Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his name in connection with the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel made highly contentious remarks targeting the prime minister, saying that he was involved in “gutter-level politics” as if he was a village headman, reports ANI.

As per a Business Standard report, during a campaign rally in Dehradun, Modi had asserted that the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland deal Christian Michel had revealed two names after being interrogated, one was, ‘fam’ and the other was ‘AP’. The first was referring to a family, while the second was short for Ahmed Patel.

When questioned over his alleged involvement in the scam, Patel said that if there was any possibility of him being guilty of an offence, then that could be dealt with by the courts.

He then went on a tirade against Modi, stating, “But out of whose mouth are these allegations coming? Everyone knows Narendra Modi, he does gutter-level politics like a village headman, like someone doing municipality-type politics in Dehat (rural area).”

Being a well-known veteran leader of the Congress, Patel is also the party treasurer and is seen to be one of the most powerful individuals in the party after the Gandhi family.
