As counting of votes in the current Lok Sabha Elections continues across the country, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) looks all set to return to power with perhaps an even stronger majority.

BJP itself is leading on a mammoth 292 seats, while it had secured 282 seats in 2014. The NDA is ahead on 341 seats, while the alliance had won 336 seats in the previous general elections.

The party seems to have made key inroads in West Bengal and the North-East states. In the former it is leading in 17 out of 42 seats, with the state’s ruling party Trinamool leading in 23 constituencies.

The party has generally maintained its core strength in the Hindi-heartland states, limiting expected losses in the state of Uttar Pradesh where it was faced with an alliance between the SP and the BSP.
