Another person passed away due to COVID-19 on Saturday (25 April) from the family in Uttar Pradesh (UP)’s Moradabad where a 49-year-old man had died of the deadly virus on 13 April.

The 44-year-old man who died yesterday became the third brother in the family to die in last 20 days including his 70-year-old brother who died of an “unknown” disease and was buried secretly on 5 April.

The family of around 31 people had been in quarantine ever since the death of the second brother Sartaj on 13 April.

Sartaj had been unwell and was admitted to the medical college in the Tirthankar Mahavir University. His samples were sent for testing on 9 April and the report that came on 13 April found him to be corona positive. Sartaj died the same night. The area was declared a hotspot after he succumbed to coronavirus on 13 April.

It is worth mentioning here, a team of health workers and police was brutally attacked in Haji Neb Masjid area of Moradabad on 15 April when they went to pick up Sartaj’s family to put them under quarantine after his death.

The incident in which several police and health workers were injured took place in Nawabpura area of Moradabad. The ambulance and four other vehicles were also damaged in the stone pelting.

Seventeen persons, including seven women, have been arrested so far in the matter.

The 70-year-old man who was the first person to die in the family, the health officials suspect, had suffered from COVID-19 as he had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi Nizamuddin last month.

Moradabad has emerged as a big hotspot of coronavirus cases in the state with 101 confirmed cases including four deaths.
