More than five crore workers have registered on the central government’s e-Shram portal exactly two months after the launch of the drive that aims to create a comprehensive database of workers.

The government had revealed back on 26th August that all of the 38 crore unorganised workers according to the Economic Survey 2019-20 will be registered on the portal.

Every registered worker will receive an accidental insurance of Rs 2 lakh. If they encounter an accident, they will obtain Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh on death or permanent disability and partial disability respectively.

So far, more female workers have registered on the portal than their male counterparts.

About 55.16 per cent of all the registered workers belong to the agricultural sector whereas 12.95 per cent and 8.16 per cent of them are from the construction and the domestic and household

In fact, workers from West Bengal comprise 21.15 per cent of the total workers, highest amongst all the states, Financial Express reports.

Odisha (19.41 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (17.44 per cent) and Bihar (14.41 per cent) follow West Bengal in this list of unorganised workers who have registered on this portal so far.
