Motor Vehicles Amendment Act Comes Into Force: Rs 23,000 Fine For Delhi Man In Contravention Of New Traffic Rules

With new provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 having come into force on 1 September, a Delhi resident has been charged Rs 23,000 as penalties for breaking several of the new rules, IANS reports.

Dinesh Madan was issued a challan by the Gurugram police yesterday (2 September) after being caught for the violations opposite the district court in Gurugram.

"As Madan was not wearing his helmet, he was stopped by the on-duty traffic personnel. He was unable to produce his documents when asked. Hence, the challan was issued," the police officer at the scene said.

Madan was fined Rs 1,000 for not wearing a helmet while he faced penalties of Rs 5,000 for riding without his licence, Rs 5,000 for not producing his Registration Certificate, Rs 2,000 for not having a third party insurance, Rs 10,000 for violating air pollution standards.

Madan however has contested the traffic police demands.

"I have not violated any traffic rules. They asked me to produce the documents in 10 minutes, which was impossible. They stopped me for not wearing the helmet and said that I have been penalised Rs 1,000 for that," he said.
