The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (17 April) wrote a letter to the Election Commission (EC) requesting it to review the alleged biopic of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ANI has reported.
According to the report, the purported biopic of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is titled ‘Baghini’ and is slated to be released on 3 May.
"This is to draw your attention to the news in the media that a biopic allegedly of Smt Mamata Banerjee will be released on 3 May 2019. Bharatiya Janata Party requests the Hon'ble Election Commission of India and its representative in West Bengal, the CEO, to review the said biopic before release, on similar lines done in the case of another biopic depicting Shri Narendra Modi," a letter signed by BJP West Bengal Vice-President Joy Prakash Majumdar and party leader Shishir Bajoria read, as reported by ANI.

According to a News18 report, the trailer for the Bengali-language film, Baghini, by Nehal Dutta follows the life of Indira Bandhopadhyay (played by Ruma Chakraborty) who plays a political leader and is fondly referred to as ‘Didi’ by her supporters.
"We are hopeful that after taking action against the Modi biopic, the EC will also take note of this film. It is pure propaganda," a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader was quoted in the report as saying.
Earlier, citing disturbance of the “level playing field”, the EC had stayed the release of ‘PM Narendra Modi’, a biopic on the Prime Minister till the elections are over. The movie was slated to release on 11 April.
