Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday (18 August) announced that state government jobs will be reserved only for local residents, for which his government is going to take necessary steps.

In a video message shared on Twitter, the CM said, "Madhya Pradesh government today has taken an important decision of offering government jobs to only local youths. We are making necessary legal arrangements for this."

Domicile certificate of the state is going to be required in order to apply for government jobs in the state, which will make natives of other states unable to do seek state public sector jobs, as per a News18 report.

Coming before the soon-to-happen bypolls to 27 assembly seats, the move is seen as an attempt to pull more voters to keep Congress' Kamal Nath out of power.

Former CM Kamal Nath, who has been making every possible effort to return to government through bye elections, had in 2018 announced reserving 70 per cent of private sector jobs in the state for local youth.
