As the retirement talks of cricketer M.S. Dhoni from international cricket is doing rounds, a senior BJP leader has said that former Indian skipper may enter politics, reports Zee News.
Former Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Paswan have said that Dhoni might begin his political innings from the saffron party adding that the discussions on the same are going on for some time.
“Dhoni is my friend, he is a player of world fame and there have been discussions on bringing him into the party fold. On this issue, there has been a discussion for long, although this decision will be taken only after his retirement,” said Paswan.
It can be recalled that the then BJP chief Amit Shah had met Dhoni at the latter's residence as part of the party's “Sampark for Samarthan” campaign ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
With elections for the Jharkhand Assembly about to take place later this year, it has been said the Dhoni may even end up being the chief ministerial face of BJP during the polls.
If Dhoni joins BJP, he would follow his former teammate Gautam Gambhir, who is currently representing the East Delhi constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha.
