Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: India, Japan Working On Technical Upgrade To Handle Extreme Heat, Dust

India and Japan are working on key technical updates in the bullet trains for the bullet train line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to ensure the trains will be able to handle the extreme heat and high level of pollutions, reports the Hindustan Times.

According to sources, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) wants the trains to be customised according to conditions in India so they do not break down due to the heat and dust.

“The trains that run in Japan are built to handle the outside temperature of up to 35 degrees Celsius. But here in India, and especially the section it will run in Maharashtra, the outside temperature can cross even 50 degrees. So, we will need some modifications for that,” the MD of NHSRCL Achal Khare said.

Special provisions like air conditioners, blowers, dusters are being equipped in the trains to combat heat and dust. Since the air conditioning will be inside the coaches and not on top, like in metro’s, the system will not be exposed to the outside atmosphere.
