The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has handed the contract of the Mandale Depot Works for Metro-2B to a new contractor at a 14 per cent highest cost than the prior estimation, Hindustan Times has reported.
The responsibility to carry out the work was initially given to a firm in January 2018 at a cost of Rs 390.43 crores. In contrast the new contract is worth Rs 530.32 crore though the initial evaluation of the project was around Rs 464.75 crore.
However, the firm that was supposed to carry out the initiative from early 2018 onward had completed only 7 per cent of the total work after two years. In fact, a recent meeting of the executive committee of the MMRDA revealed that the project was set to be completed within 42 months of the awarding of the contract.
Hence, the sharp rise of 14 per cent in funds allocated to the new company could possibly be attributed to the prolonged postponement in the completion of the project.
Earlier, the MMRDA had terminated the contract of an agency for persistent deferments in the works along the Dahisar (East)-Andheri (East) Metro-7 line.
