Owing to delay in finalizing contracts for the supply of rolling stock, Metro 7 that will connect Dahisar (East) and Andheri (East) is set to miss its December 2019 deadline.

Currently, 70 per cent of the civil work for Metro 7 is complete and civil work on Metro 2A is also at a similar stage. The MMRDA said civil work on both corridors will be completed by the end of 2018. Metropolitan Commissioner R A Rajeev said, “ Due to some issues with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), we failed to get the funds for the rolling stock ” as reported by The Indian Express.

The MMRDA spokesperson said the ADB is providing the MMRDA with finance for three Metro projects — Rs 2,200 crore for Metro 7, Rs 2,800 crore for Metro 2A, and Rs 2,000 crore for Metro 2B.

Rajeev added, “ By November 2019, we will have the first set of rolling stock. By December 2019, we will begin trials on Metro 7 and Metro 2A,”.

Metro 7 will is expected to ease the pressure on Mumbai’s suburban trains as commuters will no longer have to use local train services between Andheri and Dahisar.
