Commissioner Param Bir Singh led Mumbai Police has arrested Republic TV's chief executive Vikas Khanchandani citing its probe into the alleged television rating points (TRP) manipulation case, reports Hindustan Times.

The Mumbai Police has claimed that under the alleged TRP manipulation scam, some of the households which are a part of the BARC's sample engagement panel used to measure viewership data were bribed to watch Republic TV and a few other channels.

The claim made by Mumbai Police meanwhile has been rubbished by Republic TV which has denied any wrongdoing. Nonetheless, the Police has arrested Republic TV's 12 employees in the case so far.

It should be noted that Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami moved the Bombay high court last week seeking a stay to further investigation by the Mumbai Police in the TRP manipulation scam. His plea has alleged that one of the employees of the firm was tortured by the police in custody.

Goswami has sought protection for all employees from the “malicious witch hunt” allegedly being carried out by the Maharashtra authorities.
