Mumbai Rains: Indian Armed Forces’ Joint Operation With NDRF Rescues 500 Passengers From Stranded Mahalaxmi Express; 200 Still On Board

As heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai, affecting flights, rail and road traffic, Maharashtra government is carrying rescue operations to help those stranded due to the rains.

Several parts of the city including Sion, Matunga, Mahim, Andheri, Malad and Dahisar area are submerged.

The Kolhapur-bound Mahalaxmi Express with over 700 passengers on board was stranded at Vangani village near Badlapur due to waterlogged tracks.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis instructed the Chief Secretary to personally monitor rescue operations. Four teams of NDRF reached the location and are evacuating passengers with the help of 8 boats. As per the latest updates, 500 people have been safely rescued from the train, reports ANI.

The Chief Minister’s Office has also informed that 7 Navy teams, 2 helicopters of Indian Air Force, 2 Military columns have also been deployed along with local administration. 2 more military columns are on the way. The

Fadnavis said that the situation is under control and he had spoken to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai who has assured all support from centre.
