The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the infamous Muzaffarpur rape case, on Wednesday (8 January) informed the Supreme Court (SC) that there was no evidence of murder of children in the shelter home.
Presenting its status report to the apex court, the agency said that the two skeletons that were recovered from the site were later in forensic investigation found to be of a man and a woman.
The report was accepted by the Chief Justice S A Bobde-led bench, which also allowed two officers to be relieved from the investigation team.
Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the probe agency, said, investigation was done on rape and sexual assault allegation of children and charge sheets have been filed before courts concerned.
He added that the children, who were alleged to be murdered, were later traced and found to be alive.
Informing the court on the further development in the case, Venugopal said that CBI has so far probed cases of 17 shelter homes in Bihar and charge sheets have been filed in 13 of them. Four cases, however, have been closed as the agency did not find any evidence after conducting the preliminary inquiry, he told the SC.
