National Minimum Wage Not Fixed At Rs 18,000 Per Month, Clarifies Government

The Government of India has not fixed a “national minimum wage”, it clarified today (5 September) in a press release.

Some recent news reports had claimed that a minimum wage of Rs 18,000 per month had been set by the central government.

It is clarified that the Central Government has not fixed or mentioned any amount as “national minimum wage” in the Code on Wages Bill 2017.

The minimum wage will vary from place to place, said the press release, depending on the skill required, the difficulty of the work and the geographical location.
