Former chief minister (CM) of Madhya Pradesh and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan kicked off a controversy on Saturday (10 August) when he asserted that former prime minister (PM) Jawaharlal Nehru was a criminal who committed the crime of imposing Article 370, reports Asian News International (ANI).
He remarked, "He did the crime of imposing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. In one country, how can two symbols, two constitution and two heads can exist? This was not injustice but was a crime against the nation."
Chouhan also asserted that Nehru's decision to announce a ceasefire during war with Pakistan was a crime. He said, "He (Nehru) committed the crime of announcing a ceasefire in a war with Pakistan at times when Indian forces were driving out the Pakstani infiltrators from Jammu and Kashmir, due to which one-third of the portion of Jammu and Kashmir remains with Pakistan."
The development comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party revoked Jammu & Kashmir’s special status by abrogating Article 370 and bifurcated the state into separate Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
