Nepal Foreign Minister Likely To Visit India This Month To Boost Ties Amid Political Crisis In The Himalayan Nation

Amid political uncertainty in Nepal, the Himalayan nation's foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali is likely to visit India later this month, reports Times of India.

According to the report, The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Nepalese Foreign Ministry are working to schedule the visit by Gyawali.

Gyawali is slated to visit India for attending the sixth foreign minister-level joint commission meeting, as Nepal's Ambassador to India Nilambar Acharya said last week that the uptrend in the bilateral ties was going to continue.

Acharya had also said that the ties had witnessed a vast improvement with the recent visits to Nepal by Indian Army's Chief of Staff General M M Naravane and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla. Following this, the commerce and energy ministers of the two nations had also engaged over virtual meetings.

The joint commission meeting is meant to review the progress made in ties with a focus on economic partnership, trade and transit connectivity, power and water resources.

The visit by Gyawali and the joint commission meeting come at a time when Nepalese Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has pushed the nation into a state of political uncertainty by dissolving the House of Representatives.
