Dangal actress Zaira Wasim has been involved in yet another controversy. On Wednesday (27 May), Wasim put out a tweet that faced immense backlash from social media users.

Qouting a verse from Quran she said, "So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self explained: but they were steeped in arrogance- a people given to sin.”

Netizens expressed their unhappiness with the tweet which came at a time when several states in the country are facing abnormal locust attack and have been placed under high alert.

One user said, “Well She just used a Quran's verse to Justify Locusts attack on a country which offered her an opportunity in cosmopolitan city. I will again say, The Source of Hate & bigotry is something else, Education and Secularism can never become the answer to radical Islamism.”

Another remarked, “If one wonders how does a millenial who was offered an opportunity in uber cosmopolitanism, end up with so much bigotry and hate, she is mentioning the source also.”

Another user said, “ Zaira Wasim is a textbook case of a good kid, lost to society's thirst for toeing the line/falling into place. Where you live, has a profound effect on the way you think. This isn't Zaira talking ... these are the echoes of all the conversations she's hearing around her.”

Similar comments were made by multiple users.

Notably, the child actress, who acted in several films including the likes of Dangal, The Sky is Pink and Secret Superstar had given up her career in acting because she felt that her "relationship with her religion was threatened" by it.
