A new railway line between Budni and Indore (Mangaliyagaon) is all set to be constructed as the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the proposal on Wednesday (19 September). The new 205 km line is expected to come up at a cost of approximately Rs. 3261.82 crores.

The main rationale behind the undertaking of this project is to ensure the development of backward areas while also reducing the travel time from Indore to Jabalpur and Mumbai. Another positive takeaway from the commissioning of this project are the employment opportunities that would be afforded to the people in the area with a potential 49.32 lakh man-days of employment being made available.

The Railway Ministry expects that the commissioning of this project would reduce the congestion on the busy Bhopal-Itarsi section and serve the districts of Indore, Sehore and Dewas. Ten new crossing stations and seven new halt stations are also expected to be built along the line.
