New At IGNOU: Four Skill-Based Health Programmes In Tie-Up With Union Health Ministry

The IGNOU's School of Health Sciences (SOHS), is reportedly launching four new skill-based Health Programmes in a bid to create trained healthcare personnel across the country, reports Indian Express.

A skill training cell has been set up in IGNOU to develop, implement and certify skill-based health programmes in the country.

“A monitoring network at the state and district-level is being created in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, IGNOU and other institutions as identified by MOHFW. An MOU has been signed between IGNOU and MoHFW to develop and launch these programmes,” Prof T K Jena of School of Health Sciences, IGNOU, was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

The programmes would reportedly have about 30 hours of theory classes or interaction at the study centres of IGNOU, about 80 hours of demonstration or return demonstration at medical colleges for hands-on training, about one month of posting in smaller hospitals and self-activities to be carried out in a hospital setting.

The course will be known as Certificate in General Duty Assistance (CGDA) – The General Duty Assistant (GDA). The programme will be a short-duration skill-based training, with the objective of creating a workforce which can be employed by hospitals and healthcare facilities to provide support to nurses, doctors as well as other healthcare team members.
