NHAI To Mark National Highway Stretches Out Of 100 On Quality, Safety And Amenities Parameters

In a bid to improve the quality of national highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to issue scores between zero to 100 to nearly 25,000 kilometres of completed tolled stretches, reports Times of India.

The first-ever such exercise of this kind will witness the NHAI assigning a score to all the 570 stretches on which tolling is on so as to ensure that the people who pay the toll get the promised riding quality and other facilities.

The exercise is expected to be completed by October and the scores for all the relevant stretches will be made public thereafter.

The scores will be decided on the account of about 45 different parameters like waiting time at toll plazas, maintenance, riding quality, structures et cetera. The scores will be re-assessed twice a year and will have a maximum of 45 marks for these parameters, followed by 35 marks for safety, and another 20 for amenities along the highways.

The parameters for safety scores will include greening on the median, road markings and signages among several more.

The move comes in response to the push made by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi who had earlier directed the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to rank all the National Highways on quality and safety parameters.
