NIA Asks Sri Lanka To Furnish Information On Islamic Centre Believed To Have Radicalised Kerala ISIS Recruits

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has under the mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) communicated a request to Sri Lanka asking for information about an Islamic centre where some recruits to the Islamic State from Kerala may have been radicalised, reports Hindustan Times.

Although a clear link between the Easter attacks and the Islamic centre cannot be established for sure, the NIA officials think that the entity must be investigated, especially in the aftermath of the terror attacks on Easter in Sri Lanka which killed almost 300 people.

“There must be somebody in Sri Lanka who was indoctrinating Indians who travelled there and was telling them and others about violent Jehad,” stated one of the NIA personnel.

The Kerala recruits had travelled to Sri Lanka in 2015-16. A few of them had been converted at the Islamic Research Foundation in Mumbai, founded by Zakir Naik.
