The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided 16 places related to Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police assisted the NIA in carrying out these searches in the Srinagar, Pulwama and Shopian districts of the union territory.
The NIA conducted these raids in a new case that is connected to the over ground workers of several ‘tanzeems’ (terror outfit wings), which also includes the TRF.
Two TRF operatives named Tawseef Ahmed Wani and Faiz Ahmed Khan were also arrested on 10th October by the NIA with respect to the LeT-TRF conspiracy case.
Subsequently, raids were carried out at Baramulla, Kulgam and Srinagar.
This particular case was actually filed on 27th June this year regarding the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) from a LeT terrorist at Bathindi in Jammu.
NIA re-registered this case on 19th July and three LeT terrorists have already been arrested with respect to the same.
The NIA has mentioned that Pakistan-based handlers of LeT and their Jammu and Kashmir-based associates had formed a conspiracy to cause extensive terror activities with the motive of harming the general public.
“They had planned that responsibility for the terrorist acts so committed would be taken by the pseudo-acronym TRF so as to maintain plausible deniability and evade law enforcement agencies,” the NIA was quoted by the ANI.
