The government on Friday (5 August) informed the Parliament that there was no estimate of the total number of illegal infiltrators in India as they try to migrate into the country in clandestine and surreptitious manner.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that detection, detention and deportation of such illegal infiltrators is a continuous process.
"As illegal migrants try to enter into the country in clandestine and surreptitious manner, there is no accurate estimate of the total number of such illegal infiltrators. Detection, detention and deportation of such illegal infiltrators is a continuous process which is taken up by local police authorities and Bureau of Immigration," he said.
In response to another query, the minister said that the Government accords highest priority to safety, security and well-being of Indian citizens abroad.
"Our Missions and Posts abroad remain vigilant, and closely monitor and actively follow up grievances of Indians with the authorities concerned in foreign countries," he said.
