External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (23 July) categorically refuted US President Donald Trump’s claim of being asked to mediate in the Kashmir issue by Prime Minster Narendra Modi.

In his statement Jaishankar categorically assured the house by stressing that no request to mediate in the Kashmir issue has been made by Prime Minister Modi.

“No such request was made by the Prime Minister (Modi) to the US President”, said Jaishankar.

He also reiterated that India’s position remains that every issue with Pakistan would only be discussed bilaterally without interference from any international agency or power.

Jaishankar’s statement has also been acknowledged by the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Soon after Trump made the statement while meeting Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had taken to twitter to rubbish the claims. He had also added that any engagement with Pakistan would require an end to all cross border terrorist activities from its side.
