Twitter, which is looking for a buyer, was left disappointment after industry giants that showed interest initially have stepped back.
According to reports, Google, Apple, Salesforce.com and Walt Disney had shown some interest in the micro-blogging website.
Google, tipped at the most likely buyer, said the search giant has no current interest in making a bid for Twitter, while Apple suggested that Twitter should have “low expectations” about receiving an offer from it. Disney had also considered to some extent but is now no longer interested in making an offer.
Salesforce, which called the company “unpolished jewel”, seems to have buckled under pressure from investors, who expressed their reservations about the potential buyout. Questions have been raised over whether Salesforce can take the medium-term hit to its own valuation if it hands over the cash for Twitter.
Snubbed by potential buyers, Twitter must now look at new ways to expand its user base. It will now need to rely more heavily on its live video streaming strategy.
