Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has said that all stations on its aqua line network will soon be powered by solar energy instead of conventional power supply, India Today has reported.

NMRC, in a statement, said, “Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of all 21 stations of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro rail corridor. These panels will also be installed in the parking areas and boundary walls of the metro station.”

NMRC has entered into an agreement with a private firm for the solar energy project of its aqua line, which would cover 29.7 km and run through 21 stations between sector 71 station in Noida and the depot station in Greater Noida.

The solar panels used at the metro stations, depot and parking areas of the aqua line will generate a total power of 10 MW.

NMRC has signed a 10-year agreement with Sukhbir Agro Energy Limited (SAE) for the project. SAE was selected after a tender was floated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is aiding NMRC on the aqua line.

NMRC would be charged Rs 3.25 per unit for the power which the corporation claimed is lowest for any metro rail service using solar power.
