United States (US) President Joseph Biden on Thursday (25 March) asserted that he would prevent China from surpassing the US to become the most powerful nation in the world, reports Times of India.
Biden said that as the US vice president under Barack Obama he had spent "hours and hours" with President Xi Jinping, and he was convinced that Chinese leader believed that autocracy, and not democracy holds the key to the future.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Biden said, "China has an overall goal to become the leading country in the world, the wealthiest country in the world, and the most powerful country in the world. That's not going to happen on my watch because the US is going to continue to grow."
It should be noted that as per Biden, even during his two-hours-long conversation with the Chinese leader after becoming President, he had pressed that as long as Jinping and China continue to violate human rights blatantly, the US shall continue in an unrelenting way to call it to the attention of the world.
Biden's remarks against China come at a time when the bilateral ties between the two nations have hit new low.
