Students in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) schools will be receiving special lessons by broadcasting through a new exclusive television channel, DD Roshini, Deccan Herald has reported.

The new digital channel is a joint initiative of Doordarshan and the BBMP. The channel was launched by Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

“DD Roshini has designed programmes from nursery to college level. The programmes will be aired from 6 am to 10 pm,” said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad. He also adds the channel will telecast the programs that will help students to prepare for examinations until 5 pm. After 5 pm, there will be a repeat broadcast of the programmes.

The special commissioner, education, BBMP, S G Raveendra, said, “As of now, this facility is available only in schools. We will eventually make these programmes available on tablets and regular television so that the students can watch them sitting in their homes. Once that is done, there will be no need to have internet access.”

Raveendra also added said that the British Council is helping the BBMP in designing the programmes. “Some of the tough subjects are being simplified by the experts at the British Council. If students need clarifications, they can seek expert-help through Skype calls or video conferences,” he said.

A senior BBMP official said, "The main focus of the project is to help students understand the syllabus easily.”

The BBMP has been planning to design specific programmes for students studying in Class X (SSLC) and pre-university. Another 11 channels will be launching by April 2019, and each grade will have an designated channel.
