Indian taxi aggregator, Ola is investing $100 million into Vogo, a startup which provides scooters on rentals, Firstpost reports. The investment will see Vogo adding its fleet of two-wheelers onto the Ola application, broadening the range of vehicles Ola provides, the companies said in a joint statement.

Vogo, allows users to book and rent scooters for short one-way trips between 7 AM and 10 PM. The app will enable users to locate, unlock and pick up scooters and bikes at one location, and once users reach the destination, drop it off at a different location. Their scooters allow users to access scooter or bike without a key, by using an OTP-based IoT sensor.

Vogo will be using the investment money by expanding its fleet by one lakh scooters. Vogo said that more than a lakh users have used their rental service to commute more than 20 million kilometres in cities. Currently, Vogo services can be availed at Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Co-Founder and CEO of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal, in a statement said, “Our investment in Vogo will help build a smart multi-modal network for first-last mile connectivity in the country,” Ola co-founder and chief executive officer Bhavish Aggarwal said in the statement.

The company plans to add over a thousand pick-up points across these Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the coming year. The scooter rental services founder and CEO Anand Ayyadurai say, "Our goal is to make a Vogo scooter available in every nook and corner of the country that is plagued with issues like traffic congestion, pollution and growing population”.
