Keeping in mind the upcoming polls, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi offered prayers at the famous Pitambara Peeth in Madhya Pradesh’s Datiaon on Monday (15 October).
Gandhi flew to Datia district in the morning from Gwalior. He then went to the famous Shakti-peeth and stayed there for about half-an-hour. He was introduced to the priests and other members of the temple trust by State Congress president Kamal Nath and party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, as reported by The Hindu.
The Congress chief was scheduled to address a public meeting in Datia later in the day.
State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said “Indira Gandhi visited the shrine in 1979, before polls in 1980, and later, after becoming the Prime Minister. Rajiv Gandhi also paid a visit to the Shakti-peeth after becoming the Prime Minister in 1984-85.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia is the chairperson of the Peetambara Trust, which manages the affairs of the shrine. Her state is to go the polls on 28 November.
Such a visit by Gandhi comes at a time when his party has opposed Yogi Adityanath government’s plan to rename the holy city of Allahabad to Prayagraj.
