Centre's push for a single ration card throughout the nation is set to materialise as Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan announced on Tuesday (3 December) that the 'One Nation One Ration Card' would come into force from 1 June 2020, reports The Economic Times.
The move would provide a big thrust to ensuring food security for all given the eligible beneficiaries would be able to avail their share of food grains under the National Food Security Act from any fair price shop in the country, which is not possible today.
To make the new system of public grain distribution fool-proof, the 'One Nation One Ration Card' regime would be driven only by biometric/Aadhaar authentication based electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) devices.
Speaking over the development, Paswan said, "This system would largely benefit the numerous migrant beneficiaries such as labourers, daily wagers, blue-collar workers et cetera who frequently change their place of dwelling in the search of employment or for any other reason across the country."
