Opposition Parties Postpone Bengaluru Meeting As NCP Faces A Split

The proposed second meeting of opposition parties, excluding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been postponed as NCP faces a split.

The meeting was initially scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on 13-14 July, but K C Tyagi, the spokesperson for the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], confirmed the postponement.

"It is hoped that the next meeting of opposition parties will be convened after the monsoon session of Parliament," Tyagi said. The new date for the meeting has not yet been determined.

The monsoon session of Parliament is set to commence on July 20 and will extend until August 20 this year.

The upcoming monsoon session of the Bihar legislature, which will take place from 10 to 14 July, as well as the Budget-cum-monsoon session of the Karnataka assembly, scheduled from 3 to 14 July are also one of the reasons of postponement.

The two major opposition parties in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and JD(U), had previously requested the Congress leadership to delay the Bengaluru meeting for a few days because their leaders, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and RJD leader and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, would be occupied with the monsoon session of the state legislature.

Sources further indicate that the Karnataka Congress, which was supposed to host the Bengaluru meeting, also urged its central leadership to postpone the proposed opposition meeting on 13 and 14 July in light of the monsoon session of the Karnataka assembly.
